THE LAST POST FOR A GRAND OLD LADY - THE WESTON HOUSE IS DEMOLISHED 20 JULY 2011
On Septemer 4, 2010 the City of Christchurch and the Canterbury Plains were hit by an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 on the Richter Scale.
The Weston House survived - damaged but repairable.
We were overseas in Europe on that day but returned immediately to oversee repairs to our beautiful home.
Our family was safe and so were we.
However TWH suffered from the many aftershocks and the three major and ( according to GNS NZ ) separate events that followed resulted in terminal and irrepairable damage. Those major events occurred on 26 December 2010, 22 February 2011 and 13 June 2011 .
Finally on 20 July 2011 demolition started and in two days TWH became part of the landfill in Lyttleton Harbour. Part of the foundations of the new Christchurch.
Len and I have been heartened and grateful for your many expressions of support and understanding. We have had 100's of emails, cards and letters and our blog has become our way of keeping in touch with you all.
Thank you all so much - our home became a small part of your lives if only for a few days - you have become a large part of our lives and that will remain along with the other wonderful memories.
It has been a magic experience for us both and without you all, our lives would have been less rich.
To recapture some of those halcyon days please click here to read our blog a diary of events during this horrible period and view the galleries of photos past and present.
